It really depends. First, ensure the system you plan on purchasing is on the VMware Compatibility Guide (http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php). Next, determine the requirements of the guest VMs you plan to run. Based on the specs you listed the biggest concern would be the storage. A single SATA drive will likely *not* be able to support 10-12 VMs. I would look intoa RAID card with on-board memory with at least two drives in a RAID 1. Good luck!
