Lifetime depends also by your OS lifetime. But for VMs could be more than 1 year.Size cost depends... Memory and CPU maybe not too much, but for disk yes. Have you considered to use vCenter Chargeback?

Well the short answer is... it looks like the virtual hard disk was deleted some how. Information in the vmware.log file shows that the Virtual Machine Package some how ended up in the Windows Recycle...
