Hi All
I wonder if somebody could please help me with this problem.
I am running ESXi 5.1a (build 838463).
I created a new virtual machine and chose Red Hat Linux 5 64 bit
I selected 3 x E1000 virtual nics
I installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6 choosing defaults and for networking I set each network adapters IP address to static as follows:
eth0 192.168.1.71 255.255.255.0
eth1 192.168.1.72 255.255.255.0
eth2 192.168.1.73 255.255.255.0
I have NOT installed vmware tools.
After booting for the first time I am unable to ping any of the IP addresses from the outside world.
From within the Linux guest I can ping all 3 of the IP addresses above and I can ping anything outside even the ESXi host(s) and the gateway and DNS servers.
The strange thing is that I am able to ping the VM from another VM and I can ping another VM from within the Linux guest on the same ESXi host as well as from VM's on different hosts.
I can also ping the VM from the console of each ESXi host console.
I can also ping all other VM's on the same ESXi host without any problems.
All VM's are connected to the same vswitch and portgroup and there are no VLAN's configured nor any trunks or teamed nic's.
I have even created another VM and installed a fresh copy of Red Hat Enterprise 5.6 and this time during installation I disabled the firewall as well as SElinux.
So the only place I cant ping the VM from is from the outside world and this is the problem :-(
Any help would be appreciated.
Kind regards
D
