Re: Using MSA P2000 with VMware View

The P2000 will do fine, compared to other types of traditional storeage.  We've got two, but we moved them to servers instead of virtual desktops.  As you get more desktops on and the i/o gets more & more random, the performance will tank off.

I'd echo the suggestion about RAID 1+0.  There's a lot of small writes on desktops, so you'll benefit from the write io increase if you can spare the disk space.

If this is goind to be dedicated to desktops, I'd look into some of the new startups.  Their devices can handle some of the problems of i/o from virtual desktops that the traditional arrays can't.  You'll see a big benefit from something that uses solid state as a cache or buffer.  Nutanix is a good option, and you'll get good performance.  We have two blocks, and they run pretty well.  If you're just looking for a storage device, I'd recommend the tegile zebi.  We have 3, and I'd strongly recommend them.
