I have installed VMWare Workstation 9.0.1 for Linux on a Scientific Linux 6.3 host (kernel 2.6.32...).
In ALL Windows guests I see some keyboard keys incorrectly translated. For example in both Windows
server 2003 and Server 2008 x64 (not R2) the following keystrokes do not appear correctly in a simple
text file: < >. These keystrokes appear like this: | >; the caret character must be typed twice for it
to appear at all on the screen (this is a new keyboard so not a hardware issue) . Worse still, in Windows
server 2008 x64 (not R2) powershell version 2.0 these keystrokes are aslo incorrect: ( ) - these appear
as < >; { } - appear as < > ; < > - appear as | >.
It makes no difference if I remote into this host server from a Windows client (XP or Windows 7) or a
Linux client (Fedora 14) the behavior is the same. I believe this is a flaw in the keyboard translation
tables in VMWare workstation 9.
