Has anyone here used one of the free SAN products (i.e., OpenFiler, FreeNAS, etc) in a production environment? If so, what are your opinions?
My organization is on a shoe string budget, so we need to cut costs where possible.
I have a Dell PowerEgde R520 with 12GB of RAM and 9 TBs of space. It was ordered before my arrival. I was wondering if I could use on of the Free SAN products to repurpose the hardware as a SAN?
Approximately 20 ESXi hosts will need to connect to the SAN.
