I start this thread to catch all the needed features we want for a new VMware Studio version Image may be NSFW.

VMware Studio is a great tool and becomes better and better and I think it is important to

give feedback to the developers..

Current wishes for the next version ( after  v2.6 ) are:

(this thread post will be updated when new FRs coming in)

P1 = highest priority --> "very important"

....

P4 = lowest priority --> "nice to have"

P1 (order inside this group is random)

• FR #004 => updating to a specific version number !!! ('vamicli update --install' can handle only 'latest')

• FR #012 => deleting instance in Studio UI should check if there is a build in use which uses that instance as starting point (see: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1591910#1591910 - Issue 02)

• FR #014 => instance counting should be specific to a profile (each profile starts an own instance counting) (see http://communities.vmware.com/message/1594279#1594279)

• FR #019 => multicore support for build process (see: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1606373#1606373)

• FR #029 => update-repository only without the need to build the whole VM (http://communities.vmware.com/message/2064155#2064155)

• FR #030 => linux: Support for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS - 64bit  (http://communities.vmware.com/message/2130452#2130452 and http://communities.vmware.com/thread/400325?tstart=0)

P2 (order inside this group is random)

• FR #006 => possibility for multiple repositories for updates at client site (e.g. one for Operating System, one for applications etc.)

• FR #009 => additional scripts running prior to launching studiocli (see: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1590658#1590658)

• FR #020 => studio: "studiocli --newos" command should be more resistent (see: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1550502#1550502 and http://communities.vmware.com/message/1611736#1611736 and http://communities.vmware.com/blogs/vmwarestudio/2010/09/27/adding-new-os-support-ubuntu-10041-server-i386)

• FR #022 => web gui/console: enhance proxy settings in the VMware GUI and in the console (change network settings) dialog  (see: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1618697#1618697 )

• FR #031 => linux: Support for Debian 6 Squeeze - 64bit

P3 (order inside this group is random)

• FR #013 => add an 'available disk space info-box' in Studio at top of Studio Web Interface

  • info-box: show available disk space and update this every 5min and after each build process

  • info-box: becomes yellow (warning) when less than XX MB free space available for build in Studio

  • info-box: becomes red (critical) when less than XX MB free space available for build in Studio

• FR #021 => Installation with more than one ISO not possible because you can use only one ISO file in profile atm (see: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1612052#1612052)

• FR #025 =>  VM's created by ESX server cannot be seen and used by studio to build a vApp (see: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1682344#1682344)
• FR #027 => more usability to Studio GUI (http://communities.vmware.com/message/1698671#1698671)
• FR #028 => Better VAMI Service handling in Studio GUI (see: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/302382?tstart=0)
• FR #015 => instance counting should be continuously even when you delete an instance (behaviour like in Studio v1) but give the possibility to reset the counter for a specific profil (see http://communities.vmware.com/message/1594279#1594279)

P4 (order inside this group is random)

• FR #003 => inux: prevent cloning / copying of a VM (more or less license issue to avoid misusing a commercial appliance)

• FR #005 => linux: support for a separate /var partition within build process

• FR #001 => editing the 'starting point' of an existing profile in the Web GUI
