Problem solved. This is rather embarrassing. I was logged in in the host system as a standard user. When I ran Workstation9 from the administrator account, it prompted immidiately after powering on virtual machines to update vmware tools, installed them automatically and now external drives are as fast on guests as on the host.Image may be NSFW.
