Re: Migrating from vCenter 6 to 6.5 fails

I had this issue in the BETA release, the solution  for me was to ensure DNS was correctly set and the DNS server(s) were online.

I think what you are saying is that the configuration page is not showing correctly?

It looks like that page in your screenshot has been "scrolled down" Can you scroll up at all?

If this doesn't work, please try to fully power off the vSphere replication appliance and then power back on (Do not reboot)

PowerGUI Gone - now what?

$

I looked and it seems Dell has removed PowerGUI from their download page and I don't see it anywhere else.

I needed that to be able to get a vsphere object, put it into the object inspector, and then drill down and figure out how to call the properties on something like a VM that are hidden deep in the extension data.

What is the best tool to replace PowerGUI That allows me to do this?  Can't do it with the PowerShell ISE last I checked...

Thanks!

Re: Basic REST Call to vROPs

My understanding was that with vROPs, if you are going to do things with powercli, then you only have a limited set of the vROPs functionality available to you, whereas in fact all of the functionality is available through the APIs if you are willing to use native powershell and rest calls.  Is that incorrect or has that changed on vROps 6.4?

Thanks!

I discovered this is available from the Cloud Client in vRA 7.2. It would be nice if this existed in the GUI as well, though.

That makes a lot of sense

Thank you very much !

Same here @RAJ_RAJ, There are no available updates.  I have tried mounting the ISO to the DVDROM drive, double-clicking the ISO to mount to a new virtual drive, and extracting the ISO first and running the installer as admin.  Nothing seems to work.

Only 1 DNS server which is 192.168.1.1 and it returns the correct results. Not sure why it isn't working.

Re: question regarding psc ( design and configuration )

Hi there,

1. Yes, the windows installations and VCSA are interchangeable. What issues did you have? What process are you following to install and configure? Why are you doing a mixed deployment?

2. Can you refer to which specific configuration?

     a) You would deploy a PSC into the same vSphere SSO domain into different SSO sites. Deploying a second PSC into a vSphere SSO domain will automatically configure replication between the PSC nodes. When you deploy the vCenter Server, you choose which SSO site to deploy it in to and which PSC to register the VC against

     b) Can't comment on this much as I don't have any real world experience, but this is a reasonably complex option. The following article contains some helpful information as well as some links to configuring supported load balancers - FAQ: VMware Platform Services Controller in vSphere 6.0 (2113115) | VMware KB

3. You can join the PSC to an active directory domain and then configure Active Directory as an identity source for authentication and permissions

I'd suggest looking at the PSC Topology Decision Tree (Platform Services Controller Topology Decision Tree - VMware vSphere Blog) and deciding on a topology to meet your business requirements for the platform.

Cheers, Matt.

Dual Monitor Won't Enable on one Windows 7 machine but works on all other virtual desktops

$

I have something really odd here.  I have 10 Windows 7 Pro Virtual Desktops. All of them will work and enable dual monitors over PCoIP.   Doesn't matter if it is a thin client, zero client or a PC with dual monitors.  They all work except for one Machine.  The machine not working is an exact duplicate of the other 9 virtual desktops and came from the same template.  It is a full virtual desktop like all the other ones.  This is on Horizon 6.1.1 with View Agent 6.2.2 running on all machines and same version of VMWare Tools.

From the same zero client I can log into one desktop and get dual screens and then from the same zero client I can log into the trouble virtual desktop and get one screen every time.

All vmware settings are the exactly same.  Allows 2 monitors, 3d is disabled and same amount of VRam.

I assume is is something in the Windows that doesn't allow a second monitor but I can't figure out what.  Anyone have any idea what I am missing?

Thanks,

J

I was able to install 4.2 in 16.04, with some minor tweaks to get things working.

  1. Download from https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=CART16Q3_LIN64_420&productId=578&rPId=12830
  2. In Terminal, cd to download location and run "chmod +x VMware-Horizon-Client-(version release you downloaded).bundle"
  3. In Terminal run "sudo ./VMwware-Horizon-Client-(version release you downloaded).bundle" to start the install:

     3. Example: installed libglibmm with "sudo apt install libglibmm-*"

     4. Some packages were installed with newer/different versions so a soft link fixed that:

This fixes libudev "sudo ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libudev.so.1.6.4 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libudev.so.0"

This fixes libssl "sudo ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.2"

This fixes libcrypto "sudo ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1.0.0 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1.0.2"

     5. Once "ldd" was showing dependencies corrected I was able to launch and connect to my View Server

     6. I have one issue that I have not resolved, my Server info is not saved, so every connection I have to retype the Server name/IP to connect.

Can the $dssum be better presented with  @{n="SpaceUsedGB"; e={[math]::round( $_.UsedSpaceGB )} ?

Prime movitation for this report is funding more hardware to grow clusters - showing allocated disk space vs thin/used is better chargeback

thanks

Just to add to it, even for the L2 VPN the MTU size needs to be set to 1600.

Attached is the reference from the VCP6-NV book regarding this.

Hi,

Kindly check firewall is on -   Change to OFF

Check its running on SP2 or not - else apply SP2 if you have package

Clean the temp folders (%temp % , temp , %app%)

uninstall the vmware agents

reboot the host

stop services like SQL and any other application running on there from services.msc

install fresh vmware converter 5.5  on machine

start the conversion

Hello Team,

I would like to know if it is expected to have more than 40M connection from VIDM to database ? what is expected number of connection from VIDM to Database ?

Does VIDM sents repeated request for connection if Database transaction logs are full and cannot make any connection ?
